Why is it safer to install software from repositories than by downloading from websites?

A. Debian packages don't use signatures so there's no benefit to getting packages from a repository.
B. Both repositories and websites can contain malicious software so thorough checks of both need to be performed.
C. The software indexes in respostories are signed protecting against malicious rogue packages.
D. Since software packages are signed with a GPG signature and protected against tampering so there is no difference.
